“From Cloud to Fog” Cisco’s new interesting vision

Definition “Fog Computing offers compute, storage, and network abilities between sensors and clouds”.

What I have figured out so far:

  • A paradigm that pushed compute to edge of Cloud
  • Compliments Clouds
  • Automates decisions based on real time analytics to compute local or Cloud
  • Intelligent nodes connect Clouds
  • If connection to Cloud goes down, compute and storage are still available

Since a snarky cynical comment is expected by all who love me… could it be said: “To remedy the reality Cloud cannot compute or spin disk like a datacenter, bring compute and spinning disk via “Fog real time analytics” back to the datacenter and call it FOG”

With that said, FOG does sound like the natural evolution of Cloud. Cisco wrote a good book defining the original Cloud “Cloud Computing: Automating the Virtualized Data Center (Networking Technology)”
