New M3 Cisco UCS C-Series Rack-Mount Servers and why use a C-Series anyhow?

First of all the new New M3 Cisco UCS C-Series Rack-Mount Servers are Kick-Ass machines.

But why use a C-Series at all when full height Blades are a lot easier to setup and don’t require extra FEX’s?

2 reason’s.

1) To use an expansion card it has an extra slot. Will not find that on the blades, unless it is for a second Palo card on a full height.

2) Local storage is needed on the blade past what 2 drives (standard) can do. Also many (most I hope) UCS Blades are boot from SAN. Even though adding a second drive or expanding a drive is easy, it can be pricey on some SAN setups. Like if the Boot SAN device is SSD.

But this does bring up an interesting idea. Might a vendor make UCS 5108 chassis compatible expansion card to use as second card on a full height blade?
